PETITION INSTRUCTIONS

Gathering Signatures
  1. All petitions must be printed (see below) on legal size paper (8-1/2 x 14 inches).

  2. All persons signing must be registered voters (or the signatures will be thrown out).

  3. All signatures on a given petition page must be from the same county.  Use separate petitions for each county.

  4. No P.O. Boxes are allowed (residence addresses must be provided).

  5. Have each page notarized (make a copy to mail to Idaho J.A.I.L.), and turn in completed petitions to that county's local Voting Office.  If you mail them to the main Idaho J.A.I.L. Office (see bottom of each petition) by the 20th of April, we will arrange to turn them in to the proper County Voting Office.

  6. Please keep your own record of how many petitions you turn in, and have the elections clerk sign your record (log) each time you bring petitions in.

  7. IMPORTANT:  Please attach a copy of the J.A.I.L. Initiative and the Short and Long Ballot Titles to the signature Petition Form (on top) so that people can have access to that information before signing the petition.  Once a signature page is full, simply attach another signature page (staple or paper clip) to your Initiative and Titles pages.  Keep extra sets of information available for people to take and read, and of course, direct them to the Idaho jail4judges Web site to reprint their own petitions to circulate.
  8. Remember, Idaho needs 43,685 qualified voter-registered names by April 30th for J.A.I.L. to be placed on the November ballot.  If petition gatherers and/or signers have any questions, please call at the number below to obtain the right answers and avoid mistakes.

Suggestions for places to gather signatures are: 1) Court houses;  2) Senior Citizen Centers (where seniors meet, have lunch, and talk - most stay registered and vote);  3) Malls (set up petition drives);  4) Parks;  5) Churches;  6)  Mobile home parks; 7) Apartment complexes, and 8) Anywhere else there are large gatherings of people.

Let's go get those signatures, Idaho!

Thanks to all, and may God bless this glorious land once again.

    Rose Johnson, Idaho J.A.I.L.

    Printing Petitions
    1. Place legal size paper (8-1/2 x 14 inches) in printer or printer's accessory tray.

    2. Issue print command only after making the following adjustments.
    Netscape Browser  (Petition Form)
    1. From File|Page Setup, set top and bottom margins to 0.50 inches, left and right margins to 0.00 inches, and uncheck all headers and footers.  This will provide a "clean" copy with default left and right margins of 0.25 inches.

    2. From File|Print|Properties, choose legal (8-1/2 x 14 inch) paper size.

    3. Issue print command.
    Explorer Browser  (Petition Form)
    1. From File|Page Setup, choose legal (8-1/2 x 14 inch) paper size, set top and bottom margins to 0.50 inches, left and right margins to 0.00 inches, and delete all codes for headers and footers.  This will provide a "clean" copy with default left and right margins of 0.25 inches.  Copy down the codes for headers and footers so they can be later restored.  If you lose these codes, they can be obtained from the Explorer Help menu.

    2. Issue print command.
    AOL Browser

AOL does not permit control over margins, headers, and footers.  If you are printing the petition from AOL, you must use the special AOL version of the petition.  To obtain "clean" copies, please "white-out" any headers and footers from the printed copy and make Xerox copies on legal paper.

    1. From Print|Setup, choose legal (8-1/2 x 14 inch) paper size.

    2. Issue print command.
